Spotlight On: Fintech Correction

Last week we had our first Investor Forum of 2022, which brought together a selection of our fintech members with impact investors. The timing could not have been better given the current turbulence in fintech investment markets. Early-stage start-ups are already feeling the impact—especially those focusing on the female economy and those with female founders. Our argument, of course is a flight to quality. By that, we mean encouraging investors to support fintechs with strong gender-intelligent design, as well as doubling down efforts to support female founders.

Investor forums are one part of our value proposition to fintechs. This also includes our Fintech Fridays, which this month covered the opportunity that Web 3.0 presents to small businesses—women-owned and women-led businesses in particular. You can view the video here.

Our fintech value proposition also includes our annual Hackathon, which creates awareness of the opportunity of the female economy within the fintech sector and gives bonus points to female-founded fintechs. And it includes access to our other state-of-the-art peer learning events, including our Data Learning Series: Gender Data Driving Business Decisions in partnership with Data2X. The month-long training program for FSPs on how to get and use sex-disaggregated data to drive women-centered strategies ends this week. Two-hundred and twenty-one participants representing 81 institutions from 38 countries have attended the training, and we thank all of them. We also thank the 33 experts from 9 members and 11 non-member institutions who have taught in the program.

This month, we extend a warm welcome to our newest fintech member, COMO. Founded by Angela Nickel, the company is a leading innovator in the B2B payments space. In this issue, we interview Angela about her business, her experience raising capital and her vision for supporting women in tech.

Last, but by no means least, our network member news roundup shares the latest endeavors and accomplishments of our members and stakeholders.

We thank you all for your extraordinary work and continued support of our Alliance.
