The Secretariat is exicted to bring you the New and Improved GBA website. In addition to a new look and feel, the website features new categories such as:

  • a “What’s New ” space where all new members and events organized by GBA members will be featured;

  • an “Events” space where all GBA summits and study tours will be posted,
  • a “Search” option that will enable you to find information on topics through a key words search.

We trust that you will enjoy the new site and find it user friendly. We also hope that you will assist us in keeping the site updated by sending us information on your women’s program as often as possible.

8 Weeks to the GBA SUMMIT!!!

As we get ready to see each other again in London from October 18th to the 22nd, here are some important dates for you to remember.

Monday, September 15 — Please submit your participants form by emailing the Secretariat at mdassanou@ifc.org . The form will be used to make your reservation at the City Inn where we have a block of rooms for our participants. For more information on the hotel, please visit http://www.cityinn.com/.

Friday, October 3 — Please submit your one pager for the GBA “Most Innovative Bank of the Year Award”. The one pager will be included in this year’s program booklet for the closed sessions. Members not participating will have to submit their annual program updates for 2008.

Dena Bank to support India’s women entrepreneur
By iGovernment – July 22, 2008New Delhi: Dena Bank on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India for operating a program to encourage and assist women entrepreneur.

Under the program, Trade Related Entrepreneurship Assistance and Development (Tread) Scheme, the bank will provide loans to women through non-government organization (NGOs) for self-employment ventures by them in any kind of non-farm activity.(…)

Women in Venture Capital

(…)Why is it that the stereotypical recipients of venture capital (VC) tend to conjure up images of the smiling young men of break-away successes like Google, Facebook, and Youtube, but very few finance types-let alone VC experts-can point to examples of women-led or ethnically diverse start-ups that have received VC and generated a big return on investment?  This image is backed up by the data.  In 2006, only 4% of VC-backed companies had female chief executives, and those companies with women as leaders received just 3% of the total dollars raised from VC.(…)
