Syed Abdul Momen

AMD and Head of SME, BRAC Bank Plc, Bangladesh

Syed Abdul Momen is the Additional Managing Director of BRAC Bank PLC and a senior banking leader with over 25 years of experience spanning technology transformation, operations, and business leadership, with deep specialization in SME banking and financial inclusion.

Since joining BRAC Bank in 2005, he has played a pivotal role in building Bangladesh’s largest and most impactful SME banking franchise. Over the years, he has led national SME expansion, driven large-scale digital transformation, strengthened portfolio quality, and introduced multiple innovation-led financial inclusion initiatives for entrepreneurs, women-led businesses, and CMSMEs.

Earlier in his career, he was seconded to BRAC Afghanistan Bank as Chief Operating Officer, where he built SME operations from the ground up, expanded into new provinces, and co-developed SME banking policies with the Central Bank of Afghanistan. Prior to that, he worked with ANZ Grindlays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank, delivering multi-country core banking migrations and enterprise-scale technology transformation projects across the Middle East and South Asia.

Syed holds a Master of Development Studies from BRAC University and is a graduate of the Chief Executive Officer Program at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Communications with Distinction from Middlesex University, UK.

He is a Governing Board Member of the SME Finance Forum (IFC/World Bank Group), a Global SME Finance Awards judge, and a frequent speaker at international forums on SME finance, digital banking, and inclusive growth.
