Sophia Abu is the Head, Gender & Special Segments Office of the Financial Inclusion Delivery Unit at the Central Bank of Nigeria. She is a financial sector specialist with over 13 years of experience and is responsible for leading industry efforts toward improving access to finance for vulnerable segments in the country including; Women, Youth, MSMEs, Northern regions, and rural areas.
A Certified Project Management Professional, she has led the implementation of projects including the implementation of a Framework for Advancing Women’s Financial Inclusion in Nigeria, the development of a Framework for advancing financial inclusion for Forcibly displaced persons, and is currently a co-lead in the development of a Women’s Financial Inclusion Data Dashboard in Nigeria.
Ms. Abu is a Havard Business School Alumni and holds a master’s degree (MSc.) in Energy, Environmental Technology, and Economics from the City University of London.
