Martin Powell

Group Head of Sustainability, AXA, France

As the AXA Group Head of Sustainability, Martin is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Climate Strategy, energy policies, human rights, philanthropy, and volunteering activities. He also serves as the Director of the AXA Research Fund, supporting academic research to understand emerging risks.

Martin graduated in Engineering from the University of Dundee and has held influential roles throughout his career. Notably, he was the environment advisor to the London Mayor, and Director of Environment for the Mayor’s economic development agency. As Managing Director of Cambridge Management & Research, he provided guidance to the C40 Cities Group. Before joining AXA in 2023, Martin was the Global Head of Urban Development and later the Chief Sustainability Officer for Siemens US and Siemens Financial Services. Furthermore, he is an author of publications on climate and resilient cities and has recently released a book titled “The Climate City”, published by Wiley in 2022.
