Maria Sanchez-Smith

Maria is an international gender diversity and leadership development consultant with over +20 years of experience in financial inclusion and international development. She works alongside partners and international stakeholders to strengthen leadership capacity by developing highly bespoke leadership programs to unlock the full spectrum of leadership capabilities.

Previously, Maria served as Program Director for Women’s World Banking’s Leadership and Diversity Program for Regulators. As the Manager and Executive Trainer for the Leadership and Diversity team, she designed multiple signature global leadership development programs, created custom learning solutions for companies across the world and supported organizations to develop and implement gender action plans to build a culture of inclusion and achieve strategic goals. During her tenure, she delivered programs for around 300 institutions in over 100 countries, supporting more than 600 women leaders globally.

Prior to Women’s World Banking, Maria conducted market research on financing sustainable energy through remittance flows in Haiti and the Dominican Republic for Arc Finance in collaboration with FOMIN- a member of the Inter-American Development Bank. She developed, designed and delivered diversity and inclusion trainings for the Technical Assistance Advisor of the International Monetary Fund. She holds a double major in Economics and Latin American Studies from Columbia University.
