The Opportunity in the Country in Numbers
Women represent 48% of the population – Women represent 59% of people
living in extreme poverty – Women predominantly operate in the informal sector
(91.8%), with a strong presence in trade, catering, and garment manufacturing – In a sample of women, 37.5% have a financial account. In contrast, this rate is 64.5% for men. Only 13.8% have an account with a financial institution, while 29.8% use a mobile money account – 4.1% of women borrowed from a financial institution or mobile operator.
