2018 is on track to be our most impactful knowledge-sharing year yet, with two All-Stars Academies and Study Tours being held in addition to the Annual GBA Summit and other ongoing Peer Learning activities. Read on for details on some of our events scheduled for 2018:
GBA All-Stars Academy Sri Lanka
March 12-16, 2018
Our first All-Stars Academy of the year will be held in Negombo, Sri Lanka, hosted by IFC, a member of the World Bank Group. This one-of-a-kind immersion program will offer financial services professionals the opportunity to learn best practices around developing and implementing a Women’s Market program, with a special focus on the South Asian context. For more information, including a link to our application web form, take a look at our newsletter story or visit the All-Stars Academy hub.
Westpac Study Tour
April 30-May 1, 2018
GBA founding member Westpac is hosting a Study Tour at its Sydney headquarters. The members-only tour will enable new members with early-stage Women’s Market programs and those looking to take their programs to the next level to learn from the best in the business. During this Study Tour, attendees will meet key team members responsible for implementing Westpac’s Women’s Markets program, and have the opportunity to discuss obstacles encountered, lessons learned and best practices. For more information or to register, GBA members should contact Mary Herman at mary.herman@gbaforwomen.org.
GBA All-Stars Academy Africa
Q2, 2018
Due to overwhelming demand, the GBA will be holding our second All-Stars Academy in Africa late in the second quarter of 2018. Building on the content of our first All-Stars Academy in Africa, held in Zambia in 2017, the event is slated to be supported by FMO, the Dutch development bank. Check the All-Stars Academy hub for additional details, which will be published shortly.
Annual GBA Summit and BLC Bank Study Tour
Q4, 2018
We are thrilled to announce that the 2018 GBA Summit will be held in Beirut, Lebanon, early in the fourth quarter of 2018. GBA best practice bank BLC Bank will host our flagship event this year, gathering nearly 200 financial services professionals, policymakers, multilateral and bilateral representatives, academics, thought leaders, and other stakeholders to share Women’s Market experiences and learn from each other. The event will be anchored by a Study Tour to BLC Bank, offering participants a behind-the-scenes look at the development and implementation of a highly successful Women’s Market program. The GBA Summit hub will be updated with additional information as it becomes available.
Mentoring Program
Ongoing
The fifth cohort of the GBA Mentoring Program is about to kick off. Ten mentoring pairs are participating in the 6-month program, with the option to continue the relationship for an additional 6 months during the sixth cohort. This second cohort of 2018 will be launched in July, following the second All-Stars Academy of the year – lending participants from both Academies support as they implement the action plans they developed during their courses. Diversity and Inclusion Working Group
Ongoing
Launched in late 2017, the GBA D&I Working Group is well underway, with dozens of financial services professionals from around the world participating in monthly meetings to explore key dimensions of D&I practices that positively impact women’s representation in the financial services sector. Through ongoing engagement over 12 months, the group is mobilizing the extraordinary D&I know-how of GBA members and specialist firms such as Mercer and McKinsey & Co. to explore the link between women as an internal human resources priority and the successful implementation of Women’s Market programs, and how financial services companies can better implement gender D&I practices. Stay tuned to find out about learnings from Working Group discussions and outcomes.
